KID AGAINST THE WORLD: FIN

Chapter Ending Bakar is laying on the ground, with his back against the cold cemented floor, as his eyes are tearing up for the tip of my retractable blade given to me by my Goddess tender the skin of his neck. He is probably accepted that he won’t see pass through the hour, but some part of him hopes he will. I am the master of his life now; I am his God from this point on. I say to him, while my boots on his chest, pressing against him so he won’t make a move, “Do you believe in God?” “What?” he trembles at this moment, he is starting to cry now. “Please,” he begs. I repeat myself, “Do you believe in God?” “Please. Yes. Yes. I believe in God.” I lift the knife from his throat, giving him a false sense of hope, and I say in a deadpan manner, “You can’t afford to believe in God.” Like the white dragon being provoked, without his fair warning, I plunge the knife deep into his mouth. He is still alive after the first hit. I yank it out and then I stab it into his throat, bloo...

Kid Against The World: Fifteen

Chapter 15 “Do you think you’re a bad person?” “No, I don’t think,” my mouth spurs open words. “I know I’m a bad person.” Are you alright my darling, I haven’t seen that smile of yours for a very long time. There is a guy, waiting a call from his lover, when the ring phone rings he picks it up to hear his lover saying that they are no more. Their relationship ended tonight. He needs a hug and kisses. Is he alright? “Why do you say so?” Because ghosts are real, and killers go to hell, and they go to hell because they are bad people. I’m a killer, thus I’m a bad person, that’s how I know. “I don’t know Mister Loh, because I am. That’s how things go in this world.

Kid Against The World: Fourteen

Chapter 14 We cannot choose not to be humans, but instead being a savage is an option. Liew and I, after all the chaos has passed by, arrive at a big house at noontime. Liew and I didn’t say much during the ride here, we spent almost an hour not knowing one another. There were cop cars rushing in to the scene, but we were far gone already, they couldn’t possibly trace us, I think. Well that’s my opinion anyway. One time, I saw a woman got raped at Block D, not far from Block F. Until now the cops haven’t found the rapist. So I have low expectations the cops can find us, seems like they wouldn’t by the looks of how calm Liew is driving around out in the open. Liew parks in front of the big house, not doubt belongs to the big man. When we get out of the car we are welcomed by the big man himself, half naked, with shorts on looking very leisurely. “What happened?” he asks. “Where’s the other guy?” “Yap is dead, Bakar.” Liew says to the big man. Big man’s name is Bakar. Bakar...

Kid Against The World: Thirteen

Chapter 13 It is a Thursday morning and I have skipped school. When I arrive to the street as instructed yesterday through the phone, I meet up with a big old man with a potbelly. Behind him are the two men with tattoos on their neck, who paid a visit to Sybilla and Saida the day before. It’s warm and clear today, but by the looks of it, I will be threading into the dark shimmers of decomposition underground and most probably illegal business, which leads me to suggest death is nigh. I stand face to face with the old man, wearing my boots and black clothing, he laughs in disbelief. He says to me, “You’re the guy on the phone? You’re Kid? You’re just a kid.” The two men behind him made an obligatory laugh as their employer is just bursting with it. I nod unsmiling and straight edge as I am; I ask him, “What’s the job?” I just want to get this over with, as fast as I can. And as with the rhythm of a cheesy tune, he stops laughing, and tilts his head to examine me. He asks me ...

Kid Against The World: Twelve

Chapter 12 When I reach to the stairs of Block F, two men who I have never met before in my life with tattoos on their neck are coming down, and they are talking about a man name Katak. They give me a look, trying to act tough as I stare them blankly. One of them is taller than me, and the other is short, I give them a look back to signal how unfrighten I am. Not before long they left, and so without lingering about I climb the stairs to the third floor. Once I arrive, Namira’s red door is wide open and coming out that door is the sound of whimpers like the thundering sound of help. This is the only problem, if they are proud of you, are they there for you when you change, because they always expect a sequel. Life is not a sequel. Hey do you think this can last forever? You mean forever ever? Five ever. “It’s going to be alright,” I can hear the sound of Saida comforting somebody, her sister Sybilla perhaps. We aren’t knights, we’re no bishops, nor castles, and damn...

Kid Against The World: Eleven

Chapter 11 The way people talk is dull, and the content of their speech is nothing but subtle insults. Aaron Ng is this pale skinny guy with the dyed front bangs and squinty eyes, who tries his best to look like a Korean pop star, and he comes at me as I sit all alone in the cafeteria. Most of the girls in this generation love this kind of guys because deep down they want to experiment with their own sexes. Hollow as they break, the roads were built on the cracks of the births of trees, worse than orange Crocs. Guys like Aaron Ng will die with forks stabbed into their eyes. No matter how good looking you are with your hair and skin, you will die just like everyone else. We are no different than the flies we splat with our palms, and the chicken we call our food. “I heard you pissed off Miss Fatimah, that is badass man,” he says to me, and behind him are his over waxed and hair gelled friends. We are the walking dead, huffed puffs by the fissures. Hash tag YOLO. I stay s...
